This week for reading we were explaining different idioms. An idiom is a phrase that means something different to what it usually means.
The three idioms we picked was: cutting corners means not performing a duty/task correctly in order to save time, feeling under the weather means not feeling well or feeling sick and cost an arm and a leg means something that is overpriced or something expensive.
After we picked three idioms we wrote a script and created videos to explain the idioms we chose in real life.
I enjoyed this activity and I hope to do it again.
I am a Year 7 student at Panmure Bridge School in Auckland, NZ. I am in Learning Space 2 and my teachers are Mrs Anderson and Mrs Fisi'iahi.

Punctuation
This session was about using punctuation marks in right places of a text.
First, I matched the punctuation marks, and the meaning by its name. I knew some of the punctuation marks, so this made it easier for me.
Next, I had to make sentences with most of the punctuation marks. I was able to write 5 sentence with most of the punctuation marks.
I enjoyed this activity because I get to learn how punctuation marks work and where to use them in a sentence.
LI. to identify correct use of different punctuation.
LI. to identify correct use of different punctuation.
LI.to correct poorly used punctuation.
Strategies of Solving
We learnt about the different strategies of solving equations.
First, we were answering question that were based on addition and subtraction. My group knew that the number line could help us for both, addition and subtraction, so we show that. Written Algorithm was one of the strategies we used.
The first equation was 84-7. To do 84-7, we borrow a ten from 80 that leaves us a 70 so the ten that we borrowed, we add it to the 4 that makes 14, so 14-7 is 7 so the answer is 77. We check if it was correct by adding 3 to 77 that makes 80 so we added 4 to 80 because if we take away 3 to 7 that leaves 4. This made 84, so the correct answer was 77.
The next set of question was based on multiplication and division. The first question was 5x5. The strategies we used were: skip counting in 5's, repeated addition and written algorithm. 5x5 means that we had to skip 5, five times, we knew that the correct answer was 25.
I enjoyed this activity, but I found some of them difficult.
LI: to practice a range of strategies to solve questions using all 4 operations.

Tangrams
Today I learnt how to make tangrams. I rearranged the pieces to make animal shapes.
First I made a square piece of paper because tangrams are made from a big square.
The I folded the square into various shapes and them out.
Lastly, I tried to make different animal shapes from the tangram pieces.
It was very challenging to make the different animal shapes from the tangram pieces.

Strategies of Solving | WIP
We learnt about different strategies of solving equations.
The first equation was 84 - 7. We knewed that we can solve this equation by written algorithm, a number line, counting backwards and spliting numbers. We showed the strategies on a DLO.
We showed the strategies we use for 6 equations and put them on a google slide.
To do 84-7, we borrow a ten from 80 that leaves us a 70 so the ten that we borrowed, we add it to the 4 that makes 14, so 14-7 is 7 so the answer is 77.
For the number line we added 3 to the 77 that makes 80 then we add a 4 to 80 that makes 84. So 3 + 4 is 7, so that proves us that 84 - 7 = 77.
For the spliting numbers we subtract 4 from 84 that gives us 80 then we subtract 3 from 80 and got the answer 77.
This activity was easy for me because I knew most of the strategies.
