Geometree

This is the second activity of the Summer Learning Journey, it is called Geometree.  Geometreee is an art that includes a tree filled with the leaves and the branches that are triangular shapes.

For this activity I did the kick start activity because it was easyfor me to do. The main colors i had used in this artpiece are brown, green and light green.

For me it is hard because I had to restart my art three times to have this better one.

Sunwoo - Vector Art

This was the first activity for the Summer Learning Journey, it was called Vector Art. Vector art is an art style that people use when they copy the original image.

For this activity I picked the step it up activity, for my hero, I chose a Kpop Idol named Sunwoo, he is in a Kpop group called The Boyz. The reason I picked him is because he was the second person that got me into Kpop last year.

I picked two quotes from Sunwoo, they are:

"Tomorrow exists so you can procrastinate"
"Keep your face towards the sun and shadows will fall behind you"

For the first quote, it means that there will be one day, you can delay. The second quote, it means that if you look on the positive side, the negatives will keep on following you.

My top three tips are:

1. Match the colours to the original image by using this https://designs.ai/colors or make your own colours that match the image.

2. Draw the main things then start on your detail.

3. Group your drawings pieces as one.

Art Coloring Book - NASA edition

This was the teaser activity fro the Summer Learning Journey, the activity was the Art Colouring Book but NASA edition, I chose the space shuttle because it was easy but also hard to pick the color that matches with the image. After coloring the image in, i wrote three facts about the space shuttle.

Own Character Profile

Our challenge was to design our own anime/manga character. Our next challenge was to draw the character on our chromebooks or on paper. I chose to draw my character on my monitor because to challenge my drawing skills Our final challenge was to write a paragraph that describes our character.

Animation

LI: to create an animation

One of the oldest surviving pieces of Japanese animation may be a nameless, dateless, approximately 3-second film known as “Katsudo Shashin“ (literally “Action Photo“). It simply features a boy writing the words 活動写真 katsudo shashin and then doffing his cap.

Our challenge today was to use our animation skills to create our own 3 second ‘action photo’ using our own manga character.

I enjoyed this because I got to experiment with different colours and animes to choose from.

Anime/Manga Character profile

Our challenge was to choose our favourite anime/manga character. Our next challenge was to draw the character on our chromebooks or on paper. I chose to draw my character on paper because to challenge myself. Our final challenge was to write a paragraph that describes our character and explains why this character is your favourite

Manga Artist

Our challenge today was to use our smart searching skills to create a DLO in our own words that tells us about the life of our favourite manga artist or a well known manga artist.

History of Manga

For Reading we were learning about Anime and Manga, using this topic to improve our comprehension skills. Manga, is known as a Japanese Comic. It has widely spread throughout the world, and is a very popular trend. Manga and Anime have become a big part of Japanese Culture. There are Manga and Anime such as One Piece, Naruto, Dragon Ball that have taken over the world. Our task was to make a DLO (Digital Learning Object) about the History of Manga, describing the origin and what it is?

Customised Shoes

The challenge we were set for today was to skim and scam an article about Rangi-Haira Jaxon and his passion for customizing shoes. Rangi-Haira Jaxon designs shoes and sneakers, and was inspired by Maori culture and a documentary called 'Just For Kicks'.

Something I found interesting was that his sneakers are sold world-wide, including countries like Japan, the United States, Sweden and Australia. I enjoyed this task because I had the opportunity to expand my knowledge of Rangi-Haira Jaxon and his passion for customizing shoes.

Artwork

For our Reading we were learning about artwork, using different art tools and using shapes to create pieces of artwork. The artwork I had recreated was "Cafe Terrace". It was fun doing as I got to recreate it with tools on Google Drawing, being able to trace certain parts as well as create other parts with the shapes available on the app. It was fun doing, as we got to use other colouring tools such as Coolour.

Lockdown Maths

For Maths we were learning about how to locate and identify errors, then how to fix the problem. It was really fun doing, and I was able to show my strategy. It was especially fun doing, being able to work with my friends. The questions we had were multiplication, addition, and BEDMAS. BEDMAS stands for Brackets, Exponents, Division, Multiplication, Addition and Subtraction.

Wednesday 25 August 2021

Geese

For Reading we read a text, and answered questions about the text to enhance our skill in comprehension and inference. For our task we made a DLO (Digital Learning Object) about Geese showing 5 facts about them. It was fun doing as we were able to do this with our friends, and it was very interesting learning different facts about these geese.

Lockdown Maths

As a group we worked on papers to write our thoughts more clearly. Our strategy was to add the first 3 numbers (657, 493, 1183) and get an answer of 2333, we then subtracted that number from 6000 to get our final answer of 3667. We then created a DLO of our understanding.

Handshakes

For maths we had to fnd out how many many handshakes for the entire LS2. We worked out that each person would shake hands with 53 other people since there are 54 people and you can’t shake hands with yourself. So we multiplied 53x54 to the answer which is 2862. It was really fun and interesting to do when we got to do it wih our friends, solving this together.

List Poem

What is a million?

A million is the amount of things I am grateful for.

The total “Thank you”s I could give.

The number of times my cousin had annoyed me .

The reasons why you are my friend.

The amount of times I’ve watched Mulan.

The number of things on my wishlist.

The amount of dollars I’d like to have

A million is the times my mother has told me “I love you”

For Writing we were learning about Poems. The Poem we were learning about today is called a List Poem. By the name it states that it is a poem that lists things you've done, or would like to do. This was really fun because the poem I did was called "What is a million", listing things I have or have done a million times. It was really fun doing this activity as I got to see what I have done in my lifetime, as well as appreciate what is around me.

Lockdown Activities

Auckland is being in lockdown for seven days, so I decided to kpop journaling. The first kpop journaling spread was about one of the songs for the Map of the soul 7 by BTS. I really wrote what I think about the song. First Ilistened to the song, listen to those important stuff of the song. Then, I write what comes from my head.  For the second journaling spread, I went researching about Kim Taehyung or V, then write it all down in my own words.

Lockdown Activities

Auckland is being in lockdown for seven days, so I decided to paint with watercolors. The painting was Taehyung from BTS and the song Dynamite, the layout I went for was a Microsoft paint.  First I drew what I was about to paint. After hours of drawing it was finally done. Then, came the painting part, it was difficult, then added the shadows. AFter I outlined everything with a black pen.

Letter Q

LI: to extend our vocabulary with the letter Q

For Reading we were learning about words starting with the Letter Q. We started off by reading a text talking about the origin of the Letter Q, and where it came from. Our task was to create a DLO (Digital Learning Object) showcasing words we know starting with the Letter Q, and words we don’t know starting with Q.

It was really fun and interesting doing because we got to learn new vocabulary.

Te Reo Challenge

For this weeks Maori task we were challenged to find the different amount of objects there were on an i spy sheet. The challenge was that all the objects names were in maori so we were to translate them and find out how many there are of that object. On the left of the DLO it corresponds with the list on the right. Porohita  13 and so on.

Lockdown Maths

LI:To use the most efficient maths strategy.

For the first Maths lockdown challenge we figured out how many wall and roof pieces the world’s first 3D printed house has.

What we did- we read the questions then we did 195 + 85 =  280

We did the rest of the questions as you can see above in the DLO. We worked cooperatively in groups to solve these questions and create a DLO of our findings.

Ancient Olympics Presentation

We used our reading time this week to find out about the Ancient Greek Olympics. Once we had made our notes and reorganised our information we collaboratively created a presentation.I found out what during the five days of the Ancient Olympics while held.I enjoyed this activity because I got find out more about Ancient Olympics and found out more history even some that I didnt think would exisit. An interesting fact about the Ancient Olympics is that if married women were caught sneaking into the Olympic games they were thrown off Mt Olympus.

Haoura

In order to be able to perform at their best athletes need to have a four walls of the whare tapawha standing. We created this poster to show what each wall represents and why it is important.I found out by learning and hearing others opinions what they fought the atheletes felt when they one a medal or if the athelete did'nt succed in the end.I enjoyed this activtiy because I worked colloboratly with Liane and because I felt confident sharing what I knew or had.

Hauora and Olympians

Athletes at the top of their field train menally and physically because it is both the body and the mind that need to be strong to have a balance as an athlete. It is important to enjoy and celebrate the success you earn but it is equally as important to embrace the less successful times. It is learning you take from losing that makes you stronger and wiser. Having made an error you learn to remain calm in stressful situations. It is having a belief in yourself and the support of your Whanau that keep you motivated.

Olympics Maths Challenge 6

For this challenge, we had to create our own route of the Olympic Torch. The route we created needed to include a map connecting to all the places of the Olympic Torch. The route I created went from Norway to Leicester, Leicester to Oxford, Oxford to London and London to Cambridge. The total distance of my route in kilometers is 512 km. The total amount of minutes it takes to travel on my route is 430m. If the route passed through from Norway to Oxford, passing through Cambridge, the time would be 3h and 35m, and the total time would be 7h and 20 m whereas the original time of the route would be 7h and 10m, adding an extra 10 minutes on.

By trying to find the longest traveling route for the Olympic Torch in terms of distance, the results are 573 km by going from London to Oxford then to Cambridge, and from Cambridge to Leicester ending at Norwich. The original kilometer total was 512 km. The shortest route in terms of distance I could find was 512 km. The route went from Norway to Leicester, Leicester to Oxford, Oxford to London and London to Cambridge.

When comparing the longest and shortest route in terms of time, it takes 10 hours total. For the shortest route, it takes a total of 7 hours and 10 minutes.

Olympics Maths Challenge 5

Our objective for this task was to organise the Olympic Measurements. We used the information we were given to find the answer.

The strategies I used to solve this were searching skills and organisation. I enjoyed this task because it was simple to find out the answer, easy to solve and was able to practice my searching skills..

Olympic Maths Challenge 4

Our objective for this task was to figure out the top ten from both charts. We used the information we were given to find the answer. There are two charts for the medal tally, the first is 1896 - 2012 and the other is 2016.

The strategies I used to solve this were addition and prior-knowledge or understanding of a piece of text. I enjoyed this task because it was simple to find out the answer, easy to solve and was able to practice my addition.

Greetings in Te Reo Maori

LI: to learn the differences of Tena Koe, Tena Korua, and Tena Katoa.

When it comes to Maori words, people often do not understand the differences between them. However, there are many differences between how you pronounce the word and how the word is spelt. People get them mixed up frequently and it can change the whole meaning of it.

Tena Koe is a way of greeting or thanking one person. An example of this is when you greet one teacher you can say “Tena koe pouako/kaiako”. You can add another sentence for example: “Tena koe kaiako, kei te pehea koe?”

Tena korua is the way of greeting or thanking two people. An example of this is when you greet your friends you can say “Tena korua hoa”. To add another sentence you can say: “Tena korua hoa, he aha ake?”

Tena koutou is the way of greeting or thanking three or more people. An example of this is when you greet your friends or everyone, you can say “Tena koutou katoa”. This phrase is the first thing you say before introducing yourself. To add more meaning to it, you can ask “Kei te pehea koe?” after. This translates to: “Hello everyone, how are you?”.

Mindfulness

LI: Removing the negativity from your mind

This week LS2 focused on mindfulness. Mindfulness is a type of meditation in which you focus on being intensely aware of what you're sensing and feeling right now.Mindfulness is about focusing on the present and leaving the past behind.LS2 than sat in circle facing the opposite direction of everyone and loosen their stomach, hands on our knees and focused by breathing in and out slowly so our body and mind can relax. As the bell rang each one us breathed in and out while our mind was slowly approaching the green zone.As I body was relax our mind was wandering in calm position.Mindfulness helps our mind proceed towards the green zone so we can slowly escape from the red zone.Something I found interesting

Everyone goes into the red zone which is negative emotions. To change the red zone into green zone, we used the mindfulness bell to change the mood into calm and relaxed.

Our First Olympics

LI: To use the information in the text to make inferences.

LI: To use the images to predict what the text might be about.

This week for reading we have been doing guided reading on the text Our First Olympians. Guided reading is a digital verson of reading a text by commenting your thoughts on the book.

First we predicted what we think the text is about. Then if we had a predictions, we wrote our predictions in the comment section.

After, we unpacked the structure and purpose, then we also write on the comment section. After, we discuss what we already know about the Olympics. Then we defined these words:

- achievement
- heritage
- inspiration
- challenges
- freestyle
- determination

After defining the words, we used a website that measured the distance between Auckland to Antwerp. Then we used the comment section to answer questions that were related to the text.

After, we created a presentation about the first New Zealand Olympic Team and created medals for the Olympics.

Acids and bases

What is ph?

Ph is the measurement of how acidic and base water is

How do you measure ph?

The pH value can be measured using electrochemical measuring systems, litmus paper, or indicators and colorimeters.

What is the scale pH is measured on?

pH is a measure of how acidic/basic water is. The range goes from 0 - 14, with 7 being neutral. pHs of less than 7 indicate acidity, whereas a pH of greater than 7 indicates a base

What ph level does water have is water acidic?

Neutral

What is the most acidic ph level?

0 is the most acidic level

What is the most basic ph level?

14 is the most alkaline level.

If there is more hydrogen ion it is acidic, and if there is more hydroxyl ions it means it is alkaline. 6 is the weakest acid and 8 is the weakest alkaline. Hydrochloric acid is the acid that helps digest the food that you eat.

To do the experiment, First, use a marker and label each item you will be testing. Measure about 4 or 5 drops of each item into the well plate and mark it for that item. Get a litmus paper and put both litmus paper blue and red at the same time, to see the result.

Challenge Day

This week for maths, we had a competition of Superfingers.
Superfingers is a game that recalls the times table.

First we planned the competition out, The first round was a draw, so we had to find challenge partner, the word was Superfingers. My partner was Fau, she lost to me by 1 x 1.

The second round was the quater finals. The winner for this round was Kruse, Afatia, Chris, Mahdi.

The third round was the semi finals. The winners for this round was Vayan, Afatia, Chris, Spelman. For this round, there was a wild card, Vayan and Micah.

The fourth round was the finals Chri and Afatia. The champion for this competition was Afatia.

I enjoyed the competition because I get to recall my times table.

Olympics Math Challenge 2 | Addition and Subtraction

LI: To use the most efficient strategy to find the answers.

LI: To use LS2 Maths Talk to dicuss strategies.

This week for Maths, we have been solving equations that were related to the Olympics.

The question:

The Olympic sport of gymnastics is judged with a point system. Nastia Liukin, an uneven bar champion scored a disappointing 16.725 in Beijing putting her in second place. Her opponent beat her by 0.001 of a point. The Bronze medal winner's score was a 14.975.

  1. What was the Gold medal winners score?

  1. By how much did Nastia score over the Bronze medalist?

The stradegy we used was addition and subtraction.

For the first question the Gold medal winners score was 16.726 because Nastia scored 16.725 and the gold medalist scored  0.001 more than Nastia. So we added 0.001 and 16.725, that gave us the score of the gold medalists.

To see if our answers were correct we subtracted 16.726 to 0.001 which equalled to 16.725, and added 1.75 to 14.975 which equalled to 16.726.

For the second question Nastia scored over 1.750 than the Bronze medalist because we subtracted the 14.975 (third place winner score) to 16.725 (second place winner score) which equal to 1.750.

To see if the answer was correct, we added 1.750 to 14.975 that equals 16.725.

Olympics Math Challenge 1 | Multiplication and Division

LI: To use the most efficient strategy to find the answers.

LI: To use LS2 Maths Talk to dicuss strategies.

This week for Maths, we have been solving equations that were related to the Olympics.

The question:

On average, every swim stroke Michael Phelps takes gets him 2 meters down the pool. Michael competed in 8 separate events during the 2008 Olympics in Beijing:

  • 400m individual medley

  • 4x100m freestyle relay

  • 200m freestyle

  • 200m butterfly

  • 4x200m freestyle relay

  • 200m individual medley

  • 100m butterfly

  • 4x100m medley relay

In total, how many meters did Michael swim for his gold medals?

Finally, how many strokes did Michael have to take in total for all of his events combined if Michael can propel himself 2 meters with each stroke?

The stradegy that I used was multiplication and division.

For the freestyle relay (4x100m), we didn't multiply it, the 4 is the amount of people that did it so Michael was 1 of 4 so it is 100 same for the medley relay and the second freestyle relay.

The maths:

400

100

200

200

200

100

100

-----------

1500

Then, I divide 1500 by 2 because for every stroke Michael takes it is 2 meters.

1500 divided by 2 = 750

So 750 is the amount of strokes to take Michael over to the end of the pool.

Current Events

LI: To find the important information in a current event.

LI: To identify the author's purpose.

This week for reading we learnt about the authors purpose. Authors write for a purpose/reason. These reasons are to persuade, inform, explain or entertain (PIE).

First we looked on Kiwi Kids News to find a article. Then, we made a copy of the current events DLO and answered the questons:

  • What is the article about?
  • When the artice was created?
  • Where the article was made?
  • Who created the article?
  • Why the author wrote the article?
  • How it was made?
  • What do you think the author wanted you to learn from the artice?.

I found this activity fun and intresting because it was fun to fill in the questions and the article I picked was intresting to learn about.

Culture

LI:To edit our writing using DRAFT.

This week for writing  LS2  has been focusing on Abstract Noun Poems. Our abstract noun is about culture. An Abstract noun is something that exists but you cannot touch, an abstract noun also comes with metaphors and 5 senses. The 5 senses we use to make our poem powerful is using smell, taste, hear, feeling and see. Something that helped us write our abstract nouns  is using Metaphors , Simile , complex sentences , punctuation, complex sentences and word hippo. The poem starts with a definition of the abstract noun we've chosen and the next sentence starts with it is … using one of the senses.LS2 definition  or using DRAFT is Delete,Rearrange,Fix,Talk.

Something we found interesting is how the DRAFT System works.

Something we learnt is how the DRAFT system works.
