Science | TECH

LI: To explore science equipment.

Our task was measuring an exact amount of sugar and dissolve in both hot and cold water to make a solution.

The equipment we used was:

  • A petri dish
  • A weighing machine
  • Table sugar
  • 200 ml beakers
  • A pipette
  • Thermometer
  • Stopwatch
Method: We placed a petri dish on the weighing machine or scale. Fill a beaker with 100 ml of cold water, Measure 10 grams of sugar in the petri dish. Pour the 10 grams of sugar in the 100 ml of water in the beaker and stir. We used the stopwatch to time how long the sugar to dissolve into the water. We did the same with the warm water

Results:
Temperature of the cold water was 25 celsius and the time taken by sugar to dissolve in cold water was I minute and 10 seconds.

Temperature of the warm water was 84 celsius and the time taken by the sugar to dissolve in warm water was 17.18 seconds.

Isaac Newton | Reading/Science

LI:To learn about Isaac Newton

This week in Reading, LS2 has been working towards Simple Machines. Apart of this, we were required to learn about Isaac Newton. Isaac Newton is a physicist, mathematician, theologian and a Astronomer. We were also required to create a DLO with the following questions: Why is his work important? What did he find out? How does his work connect to simple machines?

Nanogirl Treasure hunt | Summer Learning Journey

On a Monday afternoon LS1 started the Summer Learning Journey. The school is still open so LS1 was finding materials and tools needed for the experiment. It was really fun, we had NanoGirl teaching us what to do and what to find. I am really looking forward to doing the experiment. I am looking forward to doing the experiments and future activities

Experimenting

This week I learnt what a experiment is about. A experiment is finding out information of something.

First, we chose one material to do the experiment on. The chosen material was Nappy brand 2.

Next, we measured 100ml of water in a beaker, and put 5 drops of blue food colouring.

Then, we checked if the arrow was aligned on the zero. We then measured the nappy on a scale. The nappy weighed 50g.

After, we took out the nappy out of the scale, and poured the water into the container. My group then waited for a few seconds so that the nappy could absorb the water.

Lastly, we poured the water that wasn't absorbed into a measuring cylinder and wrote down the milliliters for the unabsorbed water.

I enjoyed learning how to do this experiment. Being precise is a good skill in science so that we can understand the right way to do a experiment and being consistent is also a great skill so that you can get a great result.

Results are below the image.

Properties of Light

Light has lots of properties.

Light is something bright that can be seen from a far distance. Property means a characteristic that something is known by.

One of the properties of light is that light can be blocked by objects that are opaque.

Another property of light is that the light can change it's colour by an coloured object.

Another property of light is that the light can be spilit into colours from the rainbow. This is because the prism seperates the colours into a rainbow.

Check the document below for more properties.

Properties of Sound

There are 3 kinds of properties of sound.
Sound means a vibration that can be heard.
Property means a belonging of something.

The first property of sound is if sound travels it gets weaker. This means that sound can be slient or loud.

The second property of sound is when sound travels in the same way in every direction. This means that sound travels in any direction.

The last property of sound is, sound travels through corners. This means that when sound travels through corners it can be heard.

So sound can be heard everywhere.
